The tawny owl (Strix aluco), also called the brown owl, is commonly found in woodlands across Europe to western Siberia, and has seven recognized subspecies. It is a stocky, medium-sized owl, whose underparts are pale with dark streaks, and whose upper body may be either brown or grey. (In several subspecies, individuals may be of either color.) The tawny owl typically makes its nest in a tree hollow where it can protect its eggs and young against potential predators. It is non-migratory and highly territorial: as a result, when young birds grow up and leave the parental nest, if they cannot find a vacant territory to claim as their own, they will often starve

We can be proud of the Czech glass - our craftsmen became famous throughout the world and it still has the sound of a prestigious product with an exceptional quality of. Therefore it is entitled to the second issue of the series of silver coins representing the historical milestones in glass manufacture.

The first written mention of glass production in Bohemia dates back to the 1162. The most glorious period of Czech glassmaking, however, occurred in the 17th and 18th centuries, when the Baroque craftsmen made the first Czech crystal. Their extraordinary discovery overshadowed, until then, the unequaled Venetian glass (to which was dedicated the first issue of this series) and have gained an unrivaled position in the European markets. Although their secrets were eventually revealed, the Czech glass conquered the world. The Czech crystal chandeliers hung in the courts of rulers such as Louis XV., Maria Theresa or Elizabeth I Petrovna. Jablonec nad Nisou in North Bohemia played an important role in glass expansion, when at the end of the 19th century they produced 65% of the world’s production of glass jewellery. The field employed over 30,000 workers. The 20th century also began magnificently for the region, when for the year 1911, the Jablonec entrepreneurs handed over taxes to the Habsburg monarchy of the same amount as all the Crown land of Dalmatia put together. At the end of the 20th century, the glass Jablonec nad Nisou also became the city of coinage - it is now the seat of the Czech Mint.

The coin, prepared by the German company Numiscom in cooperation with the Czech Mint and the Jizera company Glass Pesničák, consists of two parts. The first takes the form of a ring minted from two ounces of pure silver. The reverse side of the ring bears the inscription BOHEMIA GLASS and the decorative motif performed in the style of Cubism of Prague. The obverse of the ring is dedicated to the attributes of the issuer of the coin - the emblem of the Republic of Congo, the year of issue 2016 and the nominal value of 1000 FRANCS CFA. The center of the coin then consists of glass of red color with a motive, which is a typical example of the skill of North Bohemian glass makers.

Thanks to authentic workmanship, no two coins are the same. A part of each coin are a refined frame and a booklet in English, which tells the story of this unique issue.

Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to the major masterpieces of French museums or having been painted in France.

The obverse represent Salvador Dali's famous masterpiece "The Persistence of Memory". The "Museum Masterpiece" stamp that defines this series has been added at the bottom right and blends with the work. In the background, the front of Beaubourg, where Salvador Dali has been the subject of several exhibitions, most recently in 2013, has been depicted. The name of the work and that of the artist also complete the decoration. The year 2021 appears on the left.

The reverse is common to the series. It depicts several views of many major French museums. An interior view of the Musée d’Orsay, on the top left, is recognizable by its distinctive clock. Beside that is a view of the façade of the Louvre as seen from the Napoleon courtyard where the pyramid is located. Below these two elements, a fresco shows the Hôtel Salé, which houses the Picasso Museum. The lower portion of the reverse side features a view of the façade of Hôtel Biron, the current Rodin Museum, and above, the famous Centre Pompidou stairway. The face value and the words “République Française” are also inscribed on the reverse side.

The 19th Century is often described as a ‘golden age’ of coin design, and one of its greatest contributors is William Wyon.

As a young Assistant Engraver he entered the competition to design the new coins for the Great Recoinage of 1816 in an effort to further his career. His submission, The Three Graces, elegantly captured renewed interest in Ancient Greece to tell the story of the recent 1801 Act of Union and the creation of the United Kingdom.

While it didn’t win the competition, a small number of test ‘Pattern Pieces’ were produced which became sought-after as his reputation grew. His ‘Young Head’ portrait of Queen Victoria graced the coins of her reign for nearly 50 years, while his ‘Una and The Lion’ is now recognised as one of history’s most beautiful coin designs.

He was a master of his art, and The Three Graces his neoclassic masterpiece. We are proud to make it available to collectors once again as this two-ounce Silver Proof £2 coin, presented in a display case with accompanying booklet and certificate of authenticity.
